November has been the busiest month!
Sometimes, this blogging lark takes me to amazing places and having Afternoon Tea at Fortnums with Very and Virgin Experience Days, was no exception.
And this time I could take one of my oldest and best friends! We have been friends since we were 10 – Here’s our story …
When I was 10, a new girl moved to the road, she came from Scotland, and didn’t really know anyone. She used to roller skate up and down outside all on her own. I would watch from the window, desperate to join her. I asked for roller boots for my birthday so I could skate with her. My parents bought me some (I still have the boots so can take a pic, navy blue suede, with rainbow stripes on the side – I thought I was IT) I was brave and I invited her to my birthday party. the next day we skated together. And the day after that and the day after that. And the day after that, too. We were inseparable.
The following year I had a birthday party and she came bearing the best gift. A GIRLS’ WORLD. Oh yes!!! A brunette one of course! And her hair grew magically out of the top of her head. I was in HEAVEN. We didn’t skate for a bit after that – a salon was set up in my bedroom and we’d do her hair and makeup. And each others with varying degrees of success.
It sparked in me, a love of hairdressing and a 30 year career in hairdressing followed. She truly found the gift that gave me the gift.
And 30 odd years on, we are still best friends. We shared had a joint 18th birthday party where we both met our now husbands. We were each others’ bridesmaids ( I did her hair- I didn’t let her loose on mine – not since the terrible rag perm disaster which we won’t speak of ) We are God Mothers to each others children, and every year we do something lovely to celebrate our November birthdays.
I was so happy to take her for afternoon tea. To give the gift of an experience and make more memories. And celebrate our friendship! Cos I luff her.
Tea was delicious, but I got some funny looks from the ladies on the table next to us, who had pretty much polished their perfectly cut sandwiches, off, by the time I had photographed ours haha. Luckily Catriona had been briefed not to touch ANYTHING until the photos were taken. It did make me chuckle and cringe simultaneously – what would I even say if they asked? I decided, should I be put on the spot, I’d say I was a secret agent working on a very important case and needed photographic evidence… And just leave that hanging!
I was so proud of her – like a duck to water being photographed with a coffee whilst smiling and walking! She’s a natural – her Jacket is linked HERE and the dress is HERE!
If you watched my stories – you will know that there was a mix up on the deliveries so the dress I planned to wear didn’t come in time – however it was worth the wait (only 24 hours lol) It is gorgeous – and looks way more pricy than the £30 price tag
I’ve worn it heaps and it looks lovely with high heels AND it looks fab with these trainers and a denim jacket!
And now – here we are the start of December and suddenly Christmas feels a bit close !!
Have you ever admired those pre lit twig tree thingies that people hang on their walls? I have wanted one for YEARS but can’t quite bring myself to actually pay lots of money for twigs… I have also been planning on making one for almost as many years, but CBA to drag all the twigs/branches back from a swamp walk with the dawg. SO , we had an impasse!
I was looking through the Christmas bits on Very and saw THIS !! OK OK so It is supposed to be a card holder – (comes with a pack of tiny pegs) And I am sure cards would look lovely on it (side-note/confession – I hate Christmas cards (GASP) I love receiving them and reading the notes inside – and EVEN BETTER if there’ s a round robin inside – I love them! What I dislike about cards is having to display them… so I don’t. I just pile them up and if I run out of gift tags, they get repurposed immediately. And no I can’t even hang them on string up by the ceiling. Am I a baaa humbug?)
ANYWAY – look at what I did with the Twig Card Holder
(it comes with the lights )
(I know the glass decoration should say HO HO HO, but I prefer it said in a Nessa (Gavin & Stacey) voice as in OH…OH… OH.. makes me laugh to myself)
I am so happy ! It’s perfect! (knew I had the peg rail installed for a reason ! Equally, would have hammered a nail in the wall for this beauty!)
Over the years we (I) have collected some treasured tree decorations and they just get lost on a tree, so here we are! I had a lovely time faffing around with this and I am so pleased – and if you haven’t clicked to look yet, its only £15.99!!! Can you tell I am a bit excited about it – I used stripy butchers string to hang the decorations – as clearly lost the pegs within minutes of opening the box. They’ll turn up in January I am sure.
I also wanted to show you the perfect IG prop – light wise –
See the string of star lights? Up there with the twiggy thing? ? Here they are…
These are fab and of course you don’t need to traipse around the garden or stand there taking pics of yourself with them in a kilner jar – they would look lovely trailed down the centre of your Christmas table too. They are £8.99
You know how the whole of Instagram puts it’s Christmas tree in a vintage pale? (That is not a sweeping statement at all haha)
I am rebelling. What about this for an idea?
After Christmas she might end up in the bathroom with towels in, or maybe she will house all the magazines I buy and never read…
And now – It’s only fitting to plan what to wear on a winter walk that ends up at church (our village church is gorgeous – and the vicar rocks a pink sparkly cowboy hat, luckily he wasn’t around or he’d have probably nabbed my pompom hat lol)
ps – sorry the outdoor images are a little grainy – substandard IG husband – even with the proper camera. Rolls eyes and googles training course.
